The Talladega Superspeedway, previously called the Alabama International Motor Speedway, host some of the biggest races, and has come along way from just a simple soybean field. It's here, at this wild track where legends have been made since the first race in September of 1969. The Talladega 500 was named to honor the local folks who helped make the track possible. And, it was Richard Brickhouse who took the prize at the first race.
Did You Know? The world speed record for the time was set at a speed of 200.447 mph by Buddy Baker on the track in March of 1970. And, Lyn St. James set the 200 mph record herself in 1985 - she was the first woman to do so!
Legends like Darrell Waltrip made history at Talladega - Darrell was the 1st repeat winner at the track in 1982. The next year, Dale Earnhardt would go on the win at the track, and would become the its most winning driver - with 10 wins at Talladega.
With so much racing history, it's no wonder races fans return every year. Whether camping, or just in town for the race, we hope you have a great time at the Talladega Superspeedway!
